*Observations: This classic Eisenhower-era Martin guitar has some cosmetic issues but is still a fantastic instrument. There are scratches, scuffs, dings and dents everywhere from extensive playing over the years, as well as some buckle rash on the back. The top has a network of long finish checks, along with a few unrepaired but seemingly stable top cracks. As is very common for Martins of this era, the inlaid pick guard looks to be shrinking and could be the culprit. The sides of the headstock have deep circular scratches near the tuners, possibly from a string winder or long fingernails. The back of the neck looks like it had been worn down to bare wood from years of playing and has been sealed over with finish, with a clear visible outline at the neck heel, which also has a strap button installed. Lastly, the treble side of the guitar sports a several inches-long mismatched piece of mahogany, indicating this area may have been patched and finished over professionally many years ago.
On the flip side, the frets are in very good shape, with only minor wear, the tuners are original and fully functional and the bridge appears to be original as well. Most importantly, this guitar plays beautifully and the tone is absolutely marvelous. It's warm and woody-sounding with clear, sweet trebles and a delicate three-dimensional midrange that makes it very hard to put down. This one is truly a player's instrument, ready for many more years of music making. A high-quality modern era Martin hard shell case is included.
