*Observations: Originally introduced by Gibson in 1954 as a kind of entry level or "student" model, over the decades the Les Paul Junior has become one of the most celebrated electric guitars of all time, used by famous players like Leslie West, Johnny Thunders, Steve Howe, Billie Joe Armstrong, John Lennon, Martin Barre and many others on countless great recordings. It's a simple instrument but it just sounds great.
This is a wonderful 1957 example in very good condition, especially for a guitar born during the Eisenhower administration. Aside from some gouges under the bridge and a couple of rough spots on the back of the neck, the finish looks terrific, with just some light dings, small finish chips and the usual scratches and dents from lots of playing. The neck has been very nicely refretted, and the rosewood fingerboard is beautiful. There is a newer bone nut professionally installed. The neck profile is chunky but super comfortable. The tuners have been replaced, and there are some rough areas in the finish where that was done. The bridge has also been replaced by a lightly compensated one. The original tuners and bridge are included. Also included is a non-original vintage hard case that was most likely made in the 60s or early 70s and it is in marvelous shape.
The pots and tone capacitor look to be original, as is the killer-sounding P90 pickup. The P90's cover has some slight warping at the "ears", and the pickup's fiber bobbin has a crack (not visble underneath the cover) but the pickup sounds fantatsic and has no functionality issues.
This guitar is beautiful, plays great and sounds fabulous. Here's a chance to get an awesome piece of rock and roll history that won't need a ton of work or additional money to get off the ground and is ready for many more years of music making.
