Description

*This is a used guitar in very good condition
*This is a consignment item
*Includes original hard shell case

*Observations: Made in New Jersey in the early 60s, this Danelectro baritone guitar was owned and played by the great Ry Cooder. It was purchased by its most recent owner through TrueTone Music in Los Angeles, who have been selling an extensive collection of Mr. Cooder's instruments, and a COA signed by Cooder is included with this guitar as provenance.

The condition here is very good. There are scuffs and scratches from normal playing wear as well as several small paint chips but no large dings or gouges, with the exception of a crack on the top running from the edge of the neck pocket to the front pickup cavity. There is some blackish discoloration on the vinyl sides and the rear bakelite strap button is broken off, although the severed tip is included in the case. Also included is an alternate "3-course" nut and bridge. The original hard shell case is included as well and although it is in only fair shape, it is functional.

The electronics and tuners appear to be original. The controls consist of 2 concentric knobs for each pickup consisting of a fast on/off pointer and a round volume control. A refret was most likely done at some point in its lifetime, and the playability is very good, with only some minor fret flattening here and there. Currently it is tuned G to G.

One other note is that the bridge has 3 holes and is currently secured by only two of them. The bridge is resting on top of the third bass side screw, which may have been done to get the bridge to the desired height. Action is medium height and very comfortable and the sound is big, warm and clear.

This is a very cool vintage instrument in great playing condition with an incredible history, ready to make music for many more years to come!
