*Observations: From the end of Fender's legendary pre-CBS comes this lovely southern California beauty. While not entirely original, this is a classic Strat that sounds fantastic and is ready to rock and roll for many years to come.
The neck is definitely original, date stamped February, 2nd 1964. It has been refinished in a comfortable "worn down" style similar to modern Custom Shop guitars and its standard "B" oval C shape feels fantastic. The rosewood on the fingerboard is gorgeous. The body has also been attractively refinished in heavy relic Olympic White, complete with realistic checking. The body is believed to be original but no factory marks survived the refinishing process, so we found it difficult to verify 100 percent. However, it was sold to its current owner by Emerald City Guitars, one of the most respected vintage dealers in the country, who did certify its authenticity, as shown in the photos.
Some parts have been replaced, notably the tuners, the nut, the pickguard, the pickup covers, the trem springs and possibly a couple of the string saddles. A 5-way switch has replaced the original 3-way. However, the pickups and the rest of the electronics are original so the classic tone of the '60s is still here in spades. There is no whammy bar.
New jumbo frets have been expertly installed by Hogy Fret Works and playability is very good, making this a perfect player's instrument that delivers all the classic Fender sounds you could ask for. A Fender Custom Shop tweed case is included.
