*Observations: Mossman Guitars were one of the first "boutique" American acoustic guitar builders to emerge in the early 70s, presenting one of the first small shop, high-end alternatives to Martin, Gibson and Guild. From 1972 to 1984 they made some very nice guitars, and this 1975 dreadnought is a fine example of their work.

There are a two long but well-repaired top cracks behind the bridge, along with a third small one. There is also a long top crack on the treble side of the fingerboard and a much shorter one on the bass side. While neither of these seem to have been repaired, there are two braces running below them, so they are unlikely to get much worse as long as the guitar is properly cared for. There are a few small binding cracks and since the nitro finish is quite thin, some of the seams along the binding and purfling have risen a bit and there is some finish bubbling here and there.

Setting aside the cracks, the rest of the guitar is in very nice shape indeed, with mostly the kind of light scuffs, scratches and small dings one would expect on a 50-year-old instrument. The tuners' chrome finish has dulled significantly but they function normally. The saddle has been replaced with a synthetic compensated one, and the nut looks like a well cut bone replacement. There is an under-saddle piezo pickup of unknown make installed, and it works well and sounds good. There is very little fret wear.

The setup is very good and the tone is big, deep and powerful, making this both a unique piece of American guitar-making history and a really fun instrument to play!
