*Observations: This is a fantastic early example of one of the most popular electric basses of all time. Designed by Leo Fender and introduced in 1976, the StingRay offered refinements to Leo's original bass creations of the 50s and 60s and has since become a classic in its own right.
This one is from January of 1977 and it is in very good condition, especially for an instrument built at the beginning of the Carter administration! There are extensive dents, dings, bites and bruises throughout, as well as lots of scratches and scrapes from extensive playing wear and networks of long finish checking, but nothing impedes functionality and the playability is great. Everything looks to be original, aside from the bridge missing the rubber under-string mutes that were there when it shipped. It's also light weight for a StringRay of this era at just under 9 lbs. A non-original hard shell case is included and while it is functional, the latches are corroded and require some finessing to close. Currently it is strung with a set of flatwound strings.
The electronics are stock, including the original active 9-volt preamp, and everything works and sounds great!
