*Observations: This is a great-playing, all-original Music Man String Ray bass from 1979 in the rarely seen Inca Silver color. The body is dated March '79 and the neck is dated February '79, the last year that Leo Fender's CLF Research was making instruments for Music Man.
This one has been played a lot but the condition is still very good, especially for a nearly 50 year-old bass! There is significant buckle rash on the back, with some finish missing, and there are numerous small dings, dents, scratches and small finish chips across all the surfaces, but the overall the finish still looks attractive. The fingerboard has a lot of playing wear and the frets have been worn down a bit over the years but they still have a good amount of life in them and there are no deep grooves or dents in them. The neck has a few finish chips on the back and a couple of small discolored areas on the headstock, possibly from a lit cigarette. The chrome hardware has some pitting and small bald patches, but everything is functional. The rubber pads on the bridge's thumb-wheel mutes are very dry and a bit flaky from age, but they all basically work with the exception of the G string pad, which doesn't quite make firm contact with the string. Replacing these pads would be a good idea if you intend to make extensive use of them.
Everything appears to be original, including the pickups and electronics, right down to the battery clip, making this a great-sounding and fun-to-play time capsule from the early years of one of the most innovative and popular bass guitars ever introduced.
