Vintage tones that dreams are made of.
Airspeed didn't just settle for tone that was "good enough". It has taken countless iterations of engineering design and testing to get those classic vintage clean and crunch tones into one tube amp. The Airspeed™ FM-50 is the culmination of that effort. With tube-driven reverb and tremolo, a tube rectifier and circuit that closely resembles the classic clean and crunch circuits of yesteryear, the FM-50 has turned back the clock and delivered.
It wasn't enough to closely reproduce the vintage clean and crunch circuits of a Marshall® amp and a Fender® amp. They dug deep into what it takes to faithfully reproduce those tones. The key was to go beyond the circuit. If they were going to be true to themselves as guitar players and vintage amp aficionados, then they had to consider the importance of the particular speaker being used for each channel. And so they did just that. Introducing Airspeed's Circuit-to-Speaker™ technology.
Circuit-to-Speaker™ technology.
An undeniable influence in amp design is the relationship between the circuit’s profile and the speaker chosen to optimize the circuit's intention. A speaker trying to be all things to all circuits will not deliver a compelling, authentic tone for clean or crunch. The speaker has to support the circuit's intention to bring it to life.
Why do you think those vintage Marshall and Fender amps have different speakers? Some experts say that the speakers are the most defining component of your tone!
Airspeed's Circuit-to-Speaker technology allows you to connect different cabinets/speakers to independent clean and crunch channel outputs on the Airspeed FM-50 head. The right speakers and routed to right channels for the right tone. No other amp company in the world gives you this level of control in producing the exact tone desired in one system.
A breakup you can live with.
There's a vintage tone that's super important and it's in-between clean and crunch - it's clean breakup. It's that natural overdrive tone that used to be achieved in the old days when amps just had one volume for the clean channel. On those amps, you'd have to turn that one volume control up all the way to get that tone - but you also got a ton of volume. Can you say "hearing loss?".
Airspeed wanted to give you the ability to get this tone and keep your hearing. This is exactly what the FM-50 clean gain control is for. Think of the clean gain control as the volume knob on a vintage '65 Fender Twin®. You get all that natural breakup but the additional volume control on the FM-50's clean channel lets you keep the room volume where you need it.
