*Observations: This is a very early example of what would become one of the most popular and influential lines Fender ever created, the American Vintage Reissue Series. This one is from 1982, the first year the series was introduced, and it is in very good condition. The lightly-applied finish has sunken slightly, revealing the texture of the ash body beneath. Condidering its age there are surprisingly few deep scratches or dents on the top and back, although the rear edge of the top and back have significant finish chips, with a particularly deep one on the top near the rear strap button where there is a little wood showing.
The finish on the neck looks great but the frets, which were small and vintage-style to begin with, have been worn down over the years, so a refret at some point in the future would be necessary for optimum performance. Despite this, playability is still good with medium action. The acoustic tone is ringy and lively.
When this guitar came to us, there was a set of EMG pickups in it, but we have re-installed the original pickups and electronics. The bridge pickup reads 6.07K, the neck pickup reads 6.98K and the tones are clear, snappy and twangy. Wiring on this model is the modern "bridge/both/neck" 3-way Tele switching setup. The EMG pickups and electronics will be included with the sale as an extra.
At the time these guitars were shipped, they came with two bridges, a vintage-style one with three brass saddles and one with six brass saddles. This guitar has the six-saddle version that came with it installed. The three-saddle bridge has been lost. Since the three-saddle bridge was where the serial number was stamped, the serial number is unknown. However, the neck and body are both marked with the large "VINTAGE" stamp characteristic of 1982, the neck has a clear "82" stamped on it, and the pots also date to 1982. The original tweed case is not here, but an 80s-90s era Fender molded hard case is included.
This is a great-sounding, classic Fender guitar, ready to twang away for many more years to come!
