Description

*This is a used mandola in very good condition
*This is a consignment item
*Includes original hard shell case

*Observations: Tuned C G D A, a fifth below a mandolin, the mandola resides between the mandolin and the mandocello in the mandolin family. The exact production date of this lovely instrument is unknown because its serial number is illegible but the H-0 mandolas were made between roughly 1936 and 1943 and this one's features point to a probable origin in the early '40s. This model is rather rare and this example is in very good condition indeed for an over 80-year old instrument.

The original pickguard and bracket are missing. There is a decent amount of playing wear in the form of light scuffs, scratches and small to medium dents, scratches and dings on its surfaces, as well as a bit of finish bubbling on the top near the edge of the fretboard. There is also a bit of deterioration on the binding right in the area where the neck joins to the back and there is some light finish checking but there are no cracks anywhere and everything is structurally sound. The original "The Gibson" tailpiece cover is still here, as are the original tuners and bridge, all in good working order, and despite a good amount of playing wear, the original frets are still in decent shape. The original hardshell case is here and while it has a broken handle it is otherwise fully functional and looks very good.

Playability is very good, with comfortable action. The tone is loud, full and throaty and has plenty of the distinctive bark that only a well-seasoned vintage instrument can deliver.
