*Observations: This Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III, built in Memphis in 2010, is a great-playing guitar. The body is a little deeper than a 335 type guitar (a little under 2 3/8") and has a lighter center block, so it has a slightly jazzier tone but still has enough punch and feedback resistance to be equally at home in blues and rock situations.
This one is in very good condition, but it does have a good amount of playing wear throughout. The top, back, sides, and pickguard have lots of light scratching and swirling, and there are several spots where the gloss black finish has dulled a bit from skin contact. The back has some buckle rash and a few small indentations but no finish chips. The back of the neck has a spot of light finish burn, probably from a guitar stand.
There are a few yellowed spots on the binding and the bass side of the headstock has some finish bubbling along the top edge. There is a small amount of separation between the neck and the sides of the nut and the finish around the headstock logo and crown inlay has shrunken and cracked a bit, a common issue on Gibsons. Some of the gold plating on the bridge pickup has worn down to chrome but the gold on the tuners and tailpiece and bridge still look good. The saddles have been replaced with after-marker roller saddles. Schaller straplock buttons (one nickel and one gold) have been installed. There is very little fret wear.
Interestingly, the pickups are out of phase in the middle position, yielding very cool Peter Green-type tones. Overall, this guitar sounds fantastic and the playability is excellent. This black beauty is ready to go with you on all kinds of musical journeys though a wide range of styles.
