Reeves Custom 12PS 12 watt head with power scaling and Reeves closed back front ported R1x12W wide speaker cabinet loaded with a Reeves Vintage Purple 12" speaker all in excellent condition.

The design philosophy of this particular amplifier was simple ... to get a nice "chimey" tone and as the volume is turned up - the power tubes start to get that fat British sound at reasonable volume levels.

The Custom 12 was created for players seeking a small amp vibe with a touch more muscle. It embraces the low-volume virtues of its now discontinued little brother, the Custom 6, while addressing its limitations. The Custom 12 maintains true class-A characteristics of British clean chime to creamy second-harmonic distortion by configuring its two EL-84 output tubes in parallel single-ended mode. And with the added power tube and larger output transformer, the Custom 12 has a punchier tone and more clean headroom.

The Custom 12 is made right here in the USA and are completely hand-wired, utilizing turret board construction, Heyboer transformers and laser etched faceplates. The Custom 12 head and combo will become the ultra-portable solution to getting classic Reeves tone.

Power Scaling is a proprietary technology London Power developed to allow the maximum power of an amplifier to be dialed down to whatever level you need. Most Tube amplifiers have a "sweet spot", this occurs when the amplifier's power tubes are pushed into what is known as "clipping", "break-up", or "saturation". The tone and harmonics being produced by the amplifier in this state is why the majority of guitar players prefer vacuum tubes. Unfortunately, in order to get an amplifier into the "sweet spot" the associated louder volume can be very undesirable. Power scaling allows the user to keep the "sweet spot" at any volume!

Unlike power attenuators that are placed between the amplifier and the speakers - causing the amplifier to "cook itself" and seriously shorten tube life. Power Scaling allows the power output stage to be variable from full volume all the way down to bedroom levels while still achieving power tube "break up". Other advantages of Power Scaling are longer tube life at any setting less than maximum. When the Power Scale control in the minimum position the amplifier is now in standby thus eliminating the need for a standby switch.

All Reeves cabinets are constructed of finger jointed 3/4" marine birch plywood. Our cabinets feature Slot Load Venting for improved bass response, and are available in either 1x12, 2x12, or 4x12 configurations.

Metal inserts are standard on the back panels of every Reeves speaker and combo cabinet. This method ensures a tight and secure panel free of "stripping out" common with just using wood screws.

The Reeves R1x12W and R2x12W extension cabinets utilizes Wave Breaker  technology of deflecting internal sound waves of the speaker.  Wave Breaker  is a synthetic large cell foam placed on the back cabinet wall, directly behind the speaker magnet, that will reduce standing wave/back wave from the speaker.  Why do we want to reduce standing waves in a speaker cabinet?

  1. To reduce internal reflections from eventually being reflected back through the cone (or port), where they'd add delayed & distorted output to the original cone output.
  2. The cumulative effect of the out-of-phase cone rear output reaching yours ears together with the driver's direct radiation is timing errors plus reinforcement and cancellation of certain frequencies in a series of peaks and troughs that are discordant.
  3. When Wave Breaker  is placed behind the speaker these back waves are absorbed and broken up in the wave breaker molecular structure. This prevents the bounce back and therefore prevents the distortion and phasing issues.

The Vintage Purple speakers were developed to fill a void in the market place when the Fane speakers that were originally loaded into Hiwatt cabinets in the '70s went out of production.

The Vintage Purple 12" speaker is built on a Cast Aluminum frame with a 56-oz. magnet and a 2" voice coil. We took an original Fane speaker from a vintage Hiwatt cabinet, refined several prototypes until we replicated that magical tone.
