*Observations: Built in 1948, this D-18 has definitely been played a lot over the years but it is in overall very good condition for its age. There are a lot of scratches, dings, dents and gouges across all its surfaces, along with extensive finish checking. There is a lot of buckle rash on the back of the guitar, and the back of the neck has a few small finish chips and a few dings. The neck looks like it was reset at some point in the past past and while the bridge looks original, it may have been re-glued. Like many older Martins, there is a slight hump in the fingerboard where the neck joins the body, with some fall-off toward the sound hole. The action is a bit stiff and while there is a small amount of saddle to take it down a bit, a neck reset will probably be required for optimum playability. A refret was performed at some point and the frets are in good shape. The original tuners are here and they are all functional.
Despite having been built during the Truman administration and having seen a lot of action, this is a beautiful guitar from a classic era of Martin's history that will no doubt still be making music for at least another 78 years.
