*Observations: This is a beautiful player-grade Pre-CBS Strat that has great bones and is a blast to play. The neck, pickups and likely the body are original (more on the body later), as are the tuning machines and the neck plate with the original serial number. The pickguard, pickup covers, knobs, bridge, saddles and springs are replacements, as are the pots, cap and pickup selector switch. There is no tremolo arm included with this guitar.

The neck stamp dates to December 2nd, 1964. The finish on the neck is original, beautifully worn in from years of playing. The rosewood fingerboard is lovely despite a couple of gouges at the very end of the fingerboard. The neck was refretted by Holger Notzel of Hogy Fretworks with 6100 frets and they are in very nice shape and feel great. The original headstock decal was damaged during the refret process and replaced with a period correct "transition logo" decal by Notzel.

The body was given a cool relic Charcoal Frost Metallic re-finish by Joe Riggio. The pickup routs look period correct but when the body was painted, it covered anything that might have been marked in the neck pocket so it is difficult to 100% authenicate it. However, Fender stopped using nails to guide the finishing of their bodies in late 1964, and this body lacks those nail holes, which would be consistent with the neck's December 1964 date. There is an extra screw hole in the body, probably drilled when the replacement pickguard was installed.

As stated earlier, the pots, cap and the pickup selector switch have been replaced and the original 3-way switch is included in the case. The pickups are original. Their tone is a little on warmer, smoother, fatter end of the Strat tone spectrum and they sound beautiful indeed---big, stout and powerful. Lots of classic tones just pour out of this guitar.

The original hard case is included. There is a broken latch and a taped up handle but it is in decent shape and functional. The original 3-way switch, the original backplate and the parts of the broken latch are in the case pocket.

Overall, this is a marvelous guitar from Fender's classic era, made much more accessible than a pristine example due to the refinishing and replaced parts here. It is a very fun guitar to play and sounds fantastic!
