*Observations: Luthier Michael Gurian made a name for himself from the late 60s to the early 80s as one of the first well-known American independent guitar builders of his era, making instruments for famed players like Paul Simon, Pierre Bensusan, Jackson Browne and John Renbourn. This cutaway model, likely built in the late '70s, has been well-played but is in overall very good shape and it has some of Gurian's offbeat features like a narrow nut width and a slightly longer than normal scale length.
There is a lot of play wear on the top---pick scuffs, scratches and swirling and a lot of buckle rash on the back. There are dings and dents here and there but no cracks. The lightly-applied nitro finish has some cloudy, gummy areas and there is some wear on the fingerboard as well as significant fret wear. Several of the frets have fairly deep grooves worn into them. The action is a bit stiff and while there is a bit of saddle height to allow for lowering it a bit, a neck reset may be required in the future for optimum playability. There is a front strap button here that looks like it was installed at the factory. There is also a piezo pickup of unknown make installed under the saddle along with a 9V battery-powered preamp that is functional and has a lot of output.
The serial number on the neck block is not fully visible due to the installation of the 9V battery clip. The original hard shell case is included, and while its exterior is a little beat-up and the handle has been replaced by a home-made leather strap, it is otherwise fully functional.
