*Observations: For an amp nearing its 70th birthday, the condition here is good. The thin original tolex fabric has become torn, frayed or worn off to bare wood in several areas, particuluarly on the edges, corners and bottom of the amp. The tolex on the bottom lip of the rear panel is very frayed, but the control panel looks pretty good despite some of the lettering being scratched partially away. The front panel logo is intact, as is the original speaker grille cloth.
The amp originally had a detatchable panel that enclosed the speaker and control area, but it is lost, as is the original hardwired footswitch that turned tremolo on and off. The tremolo functions perfectly without it, however. With the exception of the power tubes, many of the original tubes (or at least very old replacements) are still here. A modern three prong grounded power cable has been installed, and the original leather handle has been replaced. A stylish, lightly padded corduroy amp cover is included.
In spite of its aforementioned cosmetic issues, the amp works and sounds great. The original Jensen Alnico 5 12" and 8" speakers are still present. It powers up quickly with no weird noises or hums, and the tone is wonderful. Low to medium volume clean tones are warm, clear and detailed, with sweet high end, making this a fantastic amp for vintage jazz and country tones. Blues and retro rock flavors appear when you crank up. The tremolo sounds very cool.
This is a really fun classic amp, full of lovely tones and still going strong!
